Micron: the language of thickness
Laminating film thickness is measured in microns (µ) per side; a document in a 125-micron pouch gets 250 microns of total protection. More thickness means more rigidity and durability, less flexibility.
- 75-80 micron — flexible, economical; short-lived documents
- 100-125 micron — the office and school standard; badges, instructions, teaching materials
- 175 micron — stiffened protection; menus and frequently handled cards
- 250 micron — card-stiff; long-life signs and price tags
Choose the size by edge margin, not just the document
The pouch should be 2-3 mm larger than the document on every side so the edges seal fully. An A4 pouch is right for an A4 document; special small sizes exist for business cards, IDs and labels.
Glossy or matte?
Glossy film deepens colors and suits visual jobs such as menus, posters and photos. Matte film eliminates glare; it is ideal for instructions read under strong light and surfaces you write on with dry-erase markers.
Machine and film compatibility
